About

Journey of the Bicameral Mind follows the stories of various characters through each of their own personal websites. The adventure will lead you through blogs, review sites, videos, and documents. Though these websites seem to have nothing in common, along the journey there will start to be new revelations about the characters and the world they live in.

Journey of the Bicameral Mind is an interactive arts project by Lyta Christian. Lyta Christian is an interdisciplinary artist in their senior year at MICA, completing a BFA in General Fine Arts. Journey of the Bicameral Mind started as a project for an interactive arts class called Immersive Experience Lab. The project became a work of passion for Lyta due to the chance to show their puzzle building, and visual design skills. Furthermore, the chance to create a whole world and build a story was another possibility through this project.

This project at the very beginning was made for a class called Immersive Experience Lab. The prompt was to create an interactive remote experience based on a reading of choice within groups. The group picked a Grimm's fairytale named, "The Mouse, the Bird, and the Sausage" in which the three main characters live together and have specialized roles. The Bird is tipped off that he may be taking an unfair portion of the work and goes home to confront the other two. They decide to try switching up their roles. The next they each try their new roles and one by one meet their gruesome death.

Beyond the gruesomeness of the story, the lesson being taught through the story is that every person has their role and to deny that is to lead a group to certain failure. As an individual, this lesson is highly limiting and denies freedom of choice. No one person can have one role their entire lives and taking chances in different roles is how we learn. From a modern perspective, this story cannot cover the reality of being a human within a society.
